Mötley Crüe reveals tour details

Line-Up, Set List and Other Interactive Social Elements Generated by Crue-Heads Online

Motley Crue Headlining Tour With Support From Poison and Special Guests New York Dolls Kicks Off June 7th in Dallas; Tickets on Sale Now

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 05/01/11 -- Motley Crue, one of the world's most iconic rock bands, hosted a special gathering at Bamboozle tonight revealing details about their summer tour. The unveiling included images and a description of their new set design, the set list decided by fans and a surprise announcement of Tommy Lee's "360" drum rollercoaster.

"We're looking forward to being together again and to a really special production. It will also be cool to sing some of these songs we haven't performed together in almost 20 years," said front man Vince Neil.

The band's veteran production manager and set designer, Robert Long, presented graphic renderings of the new set design, which he described as "a hard-hitting Crue rendition of a rock n' roll burlesque theatre." According to Long, the entire stage will be enveloped in red velvet drapery and a damask printed wall of guitar amps.

Continuing to integrate the input of their fans, Motley Crue conducted a survey by listing every song they have ever recorded. Fans voted at Motley.com for the final set list, which includes tracks band hasn't performed live together in almost 20 years.

Motley Crue's drummer Tommy Lee shared that he will once again be thrill-seeking on the Crue's new "360" drum rollercoaster. During his drum solo, Lee will be launched into multiple loops while continuing to perform.

The initial tour announcement by Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and New York Dolls' David Johansen was made on the syndicated radio show, Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00pm local time (check www.sixxsense.com for a list of stations). The trek headlined by Motley Crue with support from Poison and special guests New York Dolls will kick off June 7th in Dallas, TX and hit approximately 40 cities before coming to a close in early August. Song of the Week: Alice Cooper - Poison

Alice Cooper's huge comeback hit "Poison" was co-written by Desmond Child and John McCurry and produced by Desmond Child. IT was released worldwide as a single in 1989 and is featured on his 18th studio album Trash. The song has been one of his biggest hit singles in the United States, peaking at #7 on the singles chart, while peaking at #2 in the UK, only being held off the top spot by hit dance record, "Swing the Mood" by Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers.
The song is available as downloadable content (as part of the Alice Cooper pack or as a single) for use in the music video game Rock Band, and a re-recorded version is also available as downloadable content for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.

There are two versions of the video to the song which shows Alice Cooper being chained to a bizarre mechanism and singing while a ghostly woman looms over him. The original video had to be censored for showings during the day, due to shots of model Rana Kennedy wearing nothing but a black thong. The portions in question were redone with her wearing a corset to cover her breasts. The video is still often played on VH1 Classic's Metal Mania.

Song of the Week: Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was a 1988 power ballad by Poison and one of their biggest selling hits. It was released in October 1988 as the third single from Poison's second album Open Up And Say... Ahh! and it became the band's first and only number-one hit in the U.S., reaching the top spot on Christmas Eve in 1988 for three weeks (carrying over into 1989). It was a #13 hit in the UK Top20. The song was named number 34 on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of the 80s", #100 on their "100 Greatest Love Songs" and #7 on MTV and VH1 "Top 25 Power Ballads."

According to singer Bret Michaels, the recording sessions for "Every Rose" were fraught with infighting and squabbles among band members. "It was like, I totally thought this would help us move forward, you know, push the envelope, sonically," Michaels has said, "but the others were just not into it, you know? I mean, C.C. has always been the metal rawk one in the group, and he thought I was a fucking sell-out. He hated playing "Every Rose"; the song is one of the reasons he refuses to speak to me anymore. Although I think me sleeping with his girlfriend of six years didn't help either." C.C. Deville would later retort in the Poison biography Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll ... & Sex & Drugs Some More: The Poison Story, "Well that's Bret's take, okay? And you know what, he's a cunt. That's all I have to say about that.

Musically, the song starts quietly and features two intricate guitar solos, one mellow and one fast. Among guitarists, the song is notable for epitomizing the standard G - Cadd9 progression in pop/rock. During the same period, Poison had been playing at a cowboy bar called "The Ritz" in Dallas, Texas, accounting for the song's recognizable references to cowboys in the chorus, along with the twang in Bret Michaels' vocals, which give the song a country feel not often heard in power ballads composed by glam metal bands.

The music video to "Every Rose" was similar to those filmed for other 1980s power ballads. It features Bret Michaels sitting down, playing the guitar, and singing along to the song, interspersed with black-and-white clips from concerts, and color frames of a storyline that follows the song.

And if we really look the big picture, it was songs like this one that really killed hair metal back in those days, not the grunge etc. Overdose of pop ballads, they castrated and cut the metal from hair metal, leaving just ugly wigs behind. But they did sell, they surely did.
